HM Coastguard joins Northern Lighthouse Board for Tower Training Exercise

Coastguard at top of tower

Teams from HM Coastguard joined the Northern Lighthouse Board at Buchan Ness Lighthouse on Tuesday 21 September to carry out emergency rescue training. The training simulated the evacuation of a casualty from the top of the lighthouse tower.

This is the third joint exercise for HMCG and NLB.  Previous exercises have taken place at Ardnamurchan Lighthouse in the West Highlands and Eilean Glas Lighthouse on the Isle of Scalpay in the Outer Hebrides.

Buchan Ness Lighthouse is situated in Boddam, Aberdeenshire. The lighthouse was engineered by Robert Stevenson and established in 1827. The white tower is 35 metres high with red bands. There are 166 steps to the top of the tower.
