A
charitable Trust Fund has been set up to administer
the money received from The Island Race in July 2000.
The Trust is a Recognised Scottish Charity (Scottish
Charity Number SC 032089) and its purpose is to assist
in the provision of training, education and support
of suitable Merchant Navy Officer Trainees for Merchant
Navy Officer traineeships under the sponsorship of
the Commissioners.

THE BLACK BEQUEST FUND
The
Black Bequest was established in 1919 by a Mrs Janet
Black as a memorial to her brother James. The Black
Bequest remains as a charitable fund today and assistance
is available to retired Lightkeepers, Retained Lighthouse
Keepers, Attendants and their families of the Northern
Lighthouse Board.
In
the past, funds have been released to assist with
the following:
· Educational
Equipment i.e. books and computer equipment
· Aids to the chronically sick or disabled
· Unexpected and large expenses
· Exceptional travelling expenses when meeting family obligations in cases
of serious illness or bereavement
