Oban

The Board has a base in Oban on the West Coast of Scotland. Oban has excellent communication links, being served by main road and rail. The base is computer-linked to the Board's offices in Edinburgh.

The base has facilities for:
• Berthing Ships
• Landing and refuelling helicopters
• Maintaining, painting and repairing buoys
• Battery charging, conditioning and servicing
• Buoy construction.

The Base has just been totally modernised and extended. This extensive modernisation project cost in the region of £3m and involved: -

• the construction of a new building to accommodate buoy refurbishment, storage and engineering workshop functions:
• infill works to extend the surface area of the Board's pier and hardstanding:
• refurbishment of an existing building to provide offices and welfare facilities:
• improvements to the access arrangements and the junction with Gallanach Road.
