The
Board has a base in Oban on the West Coast of Scotland.
Oban has excellent communication links, being served
by main road and rail. The base is computer-linked
to the Board's offices in Edinburgh.
The
base has facilities for:
Berthing Ships
Landing and refuelling helicopters
Maintaining, painting and repairing buoys
Battery charging, conditioning and servicing
Buoy construction.
The
Base has just been totally modernised and extended.
This extensive modernisation project cost in the
region of £3m and involved: -
the
construction of a new building to accommodate buoy
refurbishment, storage and engineering workshop functions:
infill works to extend the surface area of the Board's pier and hardstanding:
refurbishment of an existing building to provide offices and welfare facilities:
improvements to the access arrangements and the junction with Gallanach
Road.
