Northern Lighthouse Board
Appointment of Director of Marine Operations
The Northern Lighthouse Board are pleased to announce the appointment of Captain Phillip Day as Director of Marine Operations.
Phil Day, joined the Board in December and has already spent time on board the Lighthouse Board’s two ships NLV PHAROS and NLV POLE STAR getting first hand experience of their capabilities in the extreme weather January offered. Prior to his appointment Phil Day has served with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, BP Shipping, Northern Marine and latterly ashore with BP Exploration. This wealth of maritime experience will be a great benefit to the Board and its operation.
As Director of Marine Operations he will be responsible for the Board’s Base in Oban, their two ships and shore based Marine staff in Edinburgh. He said “The combination of skills I have already gathered over my 18 years involved on and around the sea stands me in good stead today and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead within the Northern Lighthouse Board. I have joined at an interesting time with the recent arrival of the new PHAROS, a most versatile ship, and the exciting commercial opportunities the ship and the modern facilities at the Oban base can offer. The Board offers an efficient and cost effective service to the mariner and I have found its people are most professional in the job that they do and I am proud to have joined the team.”
Phil Day lives in Fife with his wife, and their two children.
