General Lighthouse Authorities Appoint Burness Corlett and Partners
to Supervise Construction of New Ships
Trinity House Lighthouse Service and Northern Lighthouse Board today
appointed Burness Corlett and Partners Ltd, to design and supervise
the construction of two Multi Function Tenders and a Rapid Intervention
Vessel as part of a major review of the General Lighthouse Authorities
fleet.
Commenting on the appointment of Burness Corlett and Partners (BCP)
Commodore Peter Melson, Trinity House Director of Operations said:
“ The General Lighthouse Authorities (GLAs) are delighted
with the appointment of BCP to design and supervise the building
of our new ships. This build programme resulted from a review of
the General Lighthouse Authorities’ fleet and, for the first
time, will give us the opportunity to purpose design and build ships
that are interoperable across all 3 GLAs. We intend that the reduced
running costs of these new ships will make a substantial contribution
to the GLAs ongoing drive to reduce Light Dues”.
James Taylor, Chief Executive of the Northern Lighthouse Board added:
“The Northern Lighthouse Board are confident that Burness
Corlett and Partners will ensure that the new ships will be designed
and built to the highest standards and are delighted that they have
been appointed our consultants on this exciting project”.
Philip Codd, Managing Director, Burness Corlett and Partners commented:
“ We
are pleased and honoured to have been appointed to assist the GLAs
in the design and construction
of their new vessels”
The earlier GLA Fleet Review recommended a number of changes to
the GLA fleet and its operating parameters including a Rapid Intervention
Vessel to survey and mark hazards to navigation in the Straits of
Dover.
