On issue of the Fatal Accident and Sudden Deaths Inquiry (issued
8 January 2004) Re Death of Anthony John Taylor
James Taylor, Chief Executive of the Northern Lighthouse Board,
said
“We were all deeply saddened by the untimely death of Captain Tony Taylor,
he had worked with the Board for many years and was held in high regard, he was
a popular, professional and highly experienced pilot. Our sympathies remain with
his wife and family.
A copy of the report was received today, Thursday 8 January 2004,
and our initial review broadly supports the findings.
Following
the tragic helicopter accident at the Brough of Birsay on 24 May
2002 the Board immediately
ceased helicopter operations
until interim safety control procedures could be put in place and
a full review of operations carried out. We have now developed, in
co-operation with Bond Air Services, a fully comprehensive Helicopter
Operations Safety Manual, which clearly sets out guidelines for helicopter
operations, including underslung loads. These revised procedures
reflect the findings and actions now established from the Fatal Accident
Inquiry”.
