On the 2 October 2006 Start Point lighthouse celebrated 200 years of operation. To mark this occasion the lighthouse was open to the public on a limited number of days during the season. This venture was so successful we have continued to open the light with the kind assistance of the Sanday Ranger. The lighthouse, which is unique with its black & white stripes, is situated on the tidal island of Start Point on Sanday's exposed eastern tip. 2011 Guided Tours for Start Point Lighthouse Sunday April 24th 2011 Saturday May 21st 2011 Saturday June 11th 2011 Sunday July 10th 2011 Saturday August 6th 2011 Sunday September 4th 2011 All of these visits are planned as part of a Sanday Soulka weekend, three-day festivals on the island celebrating 2011 - the year of Scotland's Islands.
