The Northern Lighthouse Board working in partnership with the North Ronaldsay Trust have now opened North Ronaldsay Lighthouse, Orkney, for tours on Sundays (when there is a ferry crossing) May - September, 12 noon - 5.300pm and at other times by arrangement, Contact Mr W Muir Tel: 01857 633257.The new lighthouse tower was designed and built by Alan Stevenson in 1854, and is Britain's tallest land-based lighthouse. The original lighthouse beacon built by Thomas Smith in 1789 is still standing nearby.
Please note this tour is not suitable for anyone suffering from heart, breathing or balance difficulties and that children under 1m in height will not be allowed access, this includes carried children. On days when essential maintenance is taking place the lighthouse will be closed to visitors.North Ronaldsay Leaflet
