In partnership with the South Rhins Community Development Trust, a registered Scottish Charity organisation, the former engine room, workshop and paraffin store at the Mull of Galloway lighthouse have been transformed into an Exhibition Centre, where the visitors can learn about the workings of the lighthouse, the working practices and lives of the keepers as well as being able to wander amongst the Kelvin Diesel engines (fitted 1955), which replaced the original paraffin Atlantic Engines. The Exhibition Centre is open daily between the hours of 1000hrs and 1600 hrs between Easter and October. There is a small entrance charge. The exhibition is wheelchair friendly. The lighthouse tower with its 115 steps can be climbed at the weekends between Easter and October, between the hours of 1000 and 1600hrs. The last tour of the lighthouse is 1545 hrs. The view from the balcony (access on weather conditions) and the light room is well worth the climb.
Please note this tour is not suitable for anyone suffering from heart, breathing or balance difficulties and that children under 1m in height will not be allowed access, this includes carried children. On days when essential maintenance is taking place the lighthouse will be closed to visitors. The tower is not wheelchair friendly. Mull Of Galloway Leaflet
